All members of WFD are medically cross trained. In some cases, a fire apparatus may be closer. In other instances, a fire apparatus comes for assistance and to provide manpower.
2. Why are fire hydrants painted various colors?
Hydrants are color coded to indicate the gallons per minute and water flow that they can provide.
3. How many hours does a Firefighter/EMS responder work annually?
WFD responders work 24 hours on, 48 hours off schedule. This is a 56-hour work week average and approximately 2,800 hours annually schedule. As a comparison, a typical 40-hour work week employee works approximately 2,000 hours annually.
