A Downtown on the Rise
At the heart of Winchester’s appeal is our historic and revitalized downtown:
- Main Street High Side Project – A $5.5 million streetscape transformation now underway is reimagining one of Winchester’s most iconic downtown blocks. The project is enhancing safety, accessibility, mobility, and historic charm, making downtown even more attractive for businesses, residents and visitors.
- Grants & Incentives – Through the Downtown Development Investment Fund (DDIF), new businesses can receive stipends to offset first-year rent, utilities, or mortgage costs with opportunities to reapply in year two. There are also multiple grants to assist with offsetting the cost of renovations to historic buildings in the district, demonstrating our commitment to helping new ventures succeed.
- Private Investment & Preservation – Alongside public investment, property owners and entrepreneurs are investing heavily in downtown buildings — restoring historic facades, bringing properties up to modern code, improving safety, and creating vibrant new spaces for retail, dining, residents, and offices. These efforts maintain the unique character of Winchester’s historic district while enhancing the atmosphere and functionality of downtown for generations to come.
